Embracer Group, a Swedish video game holding company, said today that it has expanded its empire by acquiring a few key firms, including Perfect World Entertainment and Dark Horse Media.
Perfect World Entertainment is a video game developer and publisher best known for blockbuster MMOs like Neverwinter, Star Trek Online, and Champions Online, whereas Dark Horse Media is a firm that comic book fans should be familiar with. Dark Horse Comics, the publisher behind famous graphic novels like Aliens vs. Predator, Hellboy, Robocop vs. The Terminator, and others, and Dark Horse Entertainment, the production business behind films like The Mask and Timecop, are among the corporation’s subsidiaries.
Embracer refuses to say how much it paid for Dark Horse Media, although its purchase of Perfect World Entertainment looks to have cost $125 million.
“It’s been an incredible adventure being a part of Perfect World, and we appreciate all of their support over the years,” said Yoon Im, PWE’s CEO. “PWE is ecstatic to join the Embracer family and join Gearbox in their endeavor to amuse the globe,” says PWE. We’re excited to put our enormous knowledge and skills to work for both shareholders and consumers all across the globe.”
Mike Richardson, Dark Horse’s creator and CEO, adds, “I can’t explain the enthusiasm I feel as Dark Horse enters into this new chapter in our history.” “The synergies with the Embracer network of organizations provide exciting new potential not just for Dark Horse, but also for the creative and enterprises with whom we collaborate.” I’ve had many interesting meetings with Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors, and I’m quite pleased with him and the company he and his team have created. I have to say, our company’s future has never looked better.”
Shiver Entertainment, DIGIC, and Spotfilm Networx, a renowned AVOD channel operator in Germany, are among the other firms that Embracer Group announced purchases for today. Shiver Entertainment’s prior projects include Scribblenauts Showdown and Mortal Kombat 11. DIGIC is an animation company, whereas Shiver Entertainment’s previous projects include Scribblenauts Showdown and Mortal Kombat 11.
